ABOUT OUR PLACE
Holiday Rental Victoria Vancouver Island BC
Long Meadow Estate is a small scale working organic lavender
farm. We decided to grow lavender at Long Meadow because we
thought our guests might truly enjoy the visual beauty and fragrance
of this time honored and healing plant. In the language of flowers,
lavender means devotion. At Long Meadow we are devoted to creating
a peaceful and restful experience - one where guests can retreat
from a busy day of sightseeing, playing at the nearby Lake, shopping,
golfing or whale watching and be restored.
The lavender harvest takes place over a one week period usually
at the beginning of July. For a couple of hours in the morning
during this time, we hand cut the lavender stems and tie them
into bundles. Cindy is a Master Gardener as well as farmer and
the gardens around the house also contain a variety of other types
of lavender, not part of the harvest but planted to display the
beauty of this herb.
We have about 1400 lavender plants at the moment in our
field below our house. When you come to visit and sit on the deck
to have tea, you will be able to look down upon a mass of wonderfully
fragrant purple flowers. One day this field will hold about 4000
purple bushes - all planted and harvested by hand!
The main house is available to guests and is a 4 bedroom home
that faces South, sits up high and overlooks the rest of the property.
It has its own gardens, private hot tub, decks, parking, laundry
and lovely views over the trees.
There are 3 of us in our family and we live on the property in
a private summer cabin, over 200 feet from the main house. Shawn
is a fisheries biologist and is the technical brains behind the
farm. Peter is 10 and although somewhat shy is very interested
in all things outdoors. Cindy is a retired policy consultant and
Master Gardener who has a special interest in classical beauty
and garden design. We are very private people - we generally do
not travel in the bed and breakfast style because we value our
own privacy. We like the fact that at Long Meadow curtains are
not necessary! Because of our desire to live privately, our summer
dwelling also has its own garden, parking, laundry, patio etc.
With great excitement three years ago, we built a large architecturally-designed,
state of the art, heated swimming pool with an extra large deck
area to share with our guests. It is a grand spot to sit and read,
watch the action in the pool, soak up some sun, write a letter,
or just get some lengths in for exercise.

The
sun terrace at our holiday rental estate provides a great
spot to soak up the rays and watch the action in the pool.

We are very fortunate in that our property borders on Bear Hill
Park - over 100 acres of wilderness area. Although we only own
5 acres, we enjoy the peace that over 100 acres provides. Several
types of owls live in our woods, the eagles often soar over head,
and numerous types of birds use our property for nesting and rearing
their young. This is a setting that offers far more privacy and
quiet than most properties in the Victoria area.

restful, private acreage borders Bear Hill Park with over
